Tragedy: 16-year-old with toilet phobia dies of heart attack after avoiding bathroom for months

Tragedy strikes in England as a girl looses her life all because of fear of rest room.
A 16-year-old girl in England who refused to go to the bathroom for two months because of a phobia of toilets died of a heart attack, an inquest confirmed Wednesday.
Emily Titterington's rare constipation death from "stool withholding" could have been avoided if she hadn't refused hospital treatment, a coroner's court at Truro City Hall heard.



The chronically constipated Cornwall teen, who had mild autism, was found lying in the doorway of her bathroom with her swelled abdomen "grossly extended," paramedic Lee Taylor said, according to the Independent.
"Her lower ribs had been pushed out further than her pubic bone," Taylor said. "I was shocked."
She had been holding in her waste for about eight weeks, which compressed her chest cavity and displayed her organs, the Independent reported.

Emily collapsed at her family's home and later died at a hospital on February 8, 2013.
The visible effects of her withholding her bowel movement shocked doctors.
"(It was) like nothing I have ever seen before," pathologist Dr. Amanda Jeffery said during the inquest. "It was dramatic."

The young girl refused medical treatment because she had "severe anxiety" about it, her mother Geraldine Titterington said through tears, according to BBC.
Emily's death could have been prevented if she "had been designated a support person, a professional person allocated to herself that she could build a relationship with," her mother said.
