Fight Begins: iPhone 6 vs. Samsung Galaxy S6 Active

Anonymous     13:30:00     Android, iPhone     No comments

We want to see who the winner is between this two great phones. According to Neurogadget both devices are flagships, but one of them has a variety of protections: against dust, water, shock and temperature humidity. The Galaxy S6 Active is less attractive because of its rugged rubberized flexible plastic chassis, but it can be used in extreme conditions, while the iPhone 6 is a fragile phone made of aluminum, it’s very slim and has bending problems. So, which one you would choose?

Designs and dimensions

The iPhone 6 is smaller than the Galaxy S6 Active (but taller than the iPhone 5S) and it features a high-end aluminum chassis, with thin plastic strips on the back (to hide the radio antennas). The edges are more rounded than on the previous model, the home button is unchanged and hides the popular TouchID (fingerprint scanner), but the phone is a lot slimmer (6.9mm vs 7.6mm) and it weights 129grams.

The S6 Active is a bit larger than the original flagship because of the solid plastic case, which passed military specification testing, surviving in over 20 specific environmental conditions. It’s available in three color schemes: Camo White, Camo Blue Gray, it has three physical buttons below the screen and another one on the frame, which is black. The device has a thickness of 8.6mm and it weights 150grams.

Displays

The previous iPhone had a 4-inch screen with a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels – resulting in a pixel density of 326 ppi. Apple increased the size up to 4.7-inch and the resolution is higher at 750 x 1334 pixels, but the pixel density is the same. You might say that these numbers don’t look too good on paper, but in reality, the images are very crisp and clear.
There is no difference between the screen of the S6 and the S6 Active. Samsung has its own Super AMOLED technology which is used on most of the new devices, but it can be found on phones created by other brands, as well. The size of the screen from the S6 Active is 5.1-inch and the resolution is QHD of 1440 x 2560 pixels at 576 ppi. The colors seem more vibrant, oversaturated, but very pleasant to the eyes.

Cameras

All manufacturers are doing their best to come up with the best cameras, but no matter how advanced they are, they can’t offer the same quality as DSLR cameras. Samsung made the jump from 13MP to 16MP on the Galaxy S5 and since then, the camera software was improved and new features have been added, such as OIS. The S6 Active comes with AF Assist Beam, which makes the autofocus feature to be efficient in low light conditions. The camera from the back of the iPhone 6 has half the resolution of S6 Active’s main shooter, but it uses the famous iSight technology and it features phase detection autofocus, dual-LED etc.

Hardware

The iPhone 6 introduced the A8 chipset which is powered by a Dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone processor, which is paired with a M9 co-processor, PowerVR GX6450 graphics and 1GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S6 Active has the latest Exynos 7420 chipset which was built using a 14nm process. The phone is powered by a pair of two quad core processors running at 1.5GHz and 2.1GHz respectively, which team up with Mali-T760 graphics and 3GB of RAM.
The iPhone 6 lacks a microSD card slot, as usual, and the storage options are 16/64/128 GB, while the Galaxy S6 Active has the variant that was skipped by Apple: 32GB. However, you will be limited to this capacity, because Samsung is no longer fond of microSD card slots.

Batteries

The 1810mAh battery that powers the iPhone 6 competes against the 3500mAh battery from the S6 Active. Apple wasn’t able to increase the life of the iPhone 6 much, as it supports only 14 hours of talk time, while Samsung allows its users to talk 24 hours on the S6 Active device.
