Reduced battery capacity but powerful hardware for iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus

 Anonymous     15:35:00     iPhone     No comments

This may be some sort of bad news. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, though fabulous in other areas, had a huge drawback. Users complained about the lesser battery capacity. It was thought that Apple would act on these complaints and try for a better battery options for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. However, reports confirm otherwise.

According to Chinese website cnBeta, both the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus have smaller batteries with reduced capacities. Apple is going to reduce the battery size of the iPhone 6S from 1810 mAh to 1715 mAh, meaning a reduction of 5.3% from the current iPhone 6. Meanwhile, the reduction is from 2910 mAh to 2750 mAh for the iPhone 6S Plus. This means a reduced capacity of 5.5% from the current iPhone 6 plus.
This comes at a time when the specs of other smartphones sport batteries over 3000mAh.
These figures might be misleading as the numbers are reduced. But mAh means milliamperes hours. It refers to how long it can keep the phone awake at a certain amount of charge. This can be prolonged if the phone uses this charge efficiently.

There are many possible reasons for Apple to do so.
Apple must have reduced the battery capacity consciously as it is packing the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus with the latest cutting-edge hardware. Since Apple is packing in new features, these need more components to run it. For example, the pressure-sensitive screen requires more internal components to work seamlessly.

One reason could be that Apple is adding features that will actually prolong battery life. The new phones might come with features that will dispense the charge efficiently and a large battery capacity may not be required.
The other simpler reason could be iPhone 6S wants to have a thicker internal chassis wall at the sides to make it unbreakable. This would mean lesser space for the batteries to fit in.
Apple has confirmed that they will not include a 32GB variant in their base storage options. As with the iPhone 6 and 6Plus, the phones will come in 3 variants of 16GB, 64GB and 128GB.
The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will feature 4K 'Ultra HD' video and 12MP sensors. These features need more storage capacity so it is a mystery as to how the 16GB variant will handle all this. So is this a case of giving in to user demand for better cameras at the risk of having a low capacity battery? We hope not as Apple users have been clamouring for a high capacity battery for long.
