Microsoft Corporation announced its new Lumia 550 in October. Bidness Etc compares the latest addition to the Microsoft Lumia series with the Apple Inc. iPhone 6s.
In display, the iPhone 6s comes with 750x1334 pixels, 4.7 inches LED-backlit IPS LCD, capacitive touchscreen and 16M colors. They’re also equipped with ion-strengthened glass and oleophobic coating. The Lumia 550 on the other hand, comes with an AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors, and 720x1280 pixels 4.7 inches display. The display stats are mostly similar, except the ion-strengthened glass that iPhone 6s features. However, iPhone 6s features a revolutionary 3d-touch display, which no other phone in the market currently is equipped with.
With regards to memory and RAM, the iPhone traditionally comes without an external microSD slot, and the iPhone 6s comes in three variants in internal memory of 16/64/128GB memory. Lumia 550 comes with only one option of 8GB memory. However, it features an external microSD card slot which supports upto 128GB memory. As far as RAM is concerned, iPhone 6s comes with 2GB RAM and Lumia 550 with 1GB RAM.
When it comes to Camera, iPhones traditionally boast tremendous camera and video capability, and it continues this tradition with its iPhone 6s. It comes with a 12MP primary camera with phase-detection autofocus and dual-LED flash. The secondary camera is 5MP. Both cameras are capable of recording 1080p 30fps video. Lumia 550 boasts a simple 5MP primary camera with autofocus and flash, and a 2MP secondary camera.
On the hardware front, iPhone 6s is a nano-SIM handset with the dual-core 1.84GHz A9 chipset. Lumia 550 features a Qualcomm MSM 8909 Snapdragon 210 chipset. iPhone 6s comes with sensors like accelerometer, gyro, proximity, barometer and compass. Lumia 550 on the other hand, comes with proximity and accelerometer only.
As for the price, iPhone 6s is priced at $635, and Lumia 550 at $139, which is almost 1/5th of what the iPhone 6s costs. Other features that the iPhone includes are its Apple Pay and Apple Music. iPhone also supports 4G LTE network, which the Lumia 550 unfortunately doesn’t. iPhone comes in its Space Gray, Silver, Gold and Rose Gold colors, and the Lumia 550 comes in White, Red, Blue and Black colors.
Lumia 550 packs a lot of punch in its relatively cheap price. It has some really good features, the display especially is impressive when you look at it from the price perspective. Unfortunately, it lets itself down with no 4G LTE support and a primitive AMOLED touchscreen, especially when you look at the iPhone 6s’s innovative 3D-touch screen capabilities. If the iPhone is priced at almost 5 times what the Lumia 550 costs, then it probably is worth its cost even if you only look at its display, camera capabilities and the reliability that comes with Apple products.
