The world of mobile operating system is dominated by Apple's iOS and Google's Android and everything that goes in between would be crushed. Microsoft is trying to catch up for years already and its current Windows Mobile will seem to have an uphill fight with the big names, said Phone Arena.
In the hardware department, Android phones fell by 3.3 percent from last year across Europe, according to Kanta, but they still dominate the market at 72.2 percent.
Among smartphone makers in Europe, Samsung comes with 39 percent, despite its recent 2.9 market share loss. Apple trails second with 16.2 percent share, courtesy of its iPhone 6 series. Microsoft sits third, replacing Sony Corporation who occupied the place last year. It has 10.6 percent share of phone sales from the European market. Sony now occupies fourth, with 7.1 percent share.
Smartphone manufacturers which are considered popular in Europe are Motorola, Huawei and LG, but the Kantar report showed that Microsoft Corporation has sold phones more than the total combined sales of LG, Motorola and HTC. The sales belong to low-cost smartphones where Windows is doing well but not profit-wise.
With Windows 10, the Redmond-based tech firm has a good sales performance in France, with sales hitting 13.1 percent 9.9 percent last year. In Italy, Lumia phones are popular, but Microsoft sales went down from 14.5 percent last year to 13.7 this year. However, Microsoft Corporation may change its fortune with its new Lumia 950, 950 XL and 550 phones, reported ZDNet.
