Police call after postman is trapped in van by WILD TURKEYS

A postman placed this rather unusual emergency call for help when he became trapped in his van - by WILD TURKEYS .

The birds closed in around the vehicle and he claimed that he could not escape, so placed a call to his branch.

In turn, the local post master called Hillsdale Police in New Jersey just after 12pm on February 16.

The newly-released emergency call went: "Hey Sarge, this is the postmaster over in Hillsdale. You're not going to believe this, but I have a carrier that's being attacked by wild turkeys, won't let him deliver the mail.

"This has been going on. It's crazy. They were actually attacking, biting, chase the trucks - everything."

The police say that the turkeys cleared when they walked at them and went into a nearby wood, reports ABC 7 NY.

A statement from the US Postal Service said employee was "attacked by a flock of turkeys" causing the interruption of post delivery.

Although the postman sustained no injuries, they added: "The safety of our employees is a top priority.

"We are treating this incident like any other animal attack and will resume delivery to these three homes when we can assure the safety of our employee."
