Snapchat
could be working on Google Glass-style smart glasses that would show
the user photos and videos on the self-destructing messaging service.
The
company has recently snapped up various new high-profile staff members,
hinting that it may be working on its very own wearable gadget.
The
rumoured smart specs could potentially enable users to send
self-deleting selfies and video without even having to touch their
phones.
Snapchat’s
new hires include Mark Dixon — who previously worked on Microsoft’s
HoloLens headset — along with Eitan Pilipski, who spent five years
working on Qualcomm’s Vuforia augmented-reality software team.
In 2014, Snapchat bought startup tech firm Vergence Labs, which makes Google Glass-style eyewear that records video.
What’s more, Snapchat is advertising a job for a “3D Computer Vision Engineer,” hinting that it’s working on software designed for smart specs.
The selfie-sharing social networking app currently boasts 100 million daily users and is worth around £11 billion.
The company hasn’t commented on the speculation surrounding the “Snapchat smart specs.”
