The Indian beauty sensation have become a popular face in TV series when the Asian movies are talked about.
Kumkum Bhagya (English: marriage’s luck) is a Hindilanguage Indian television soap opera which broadcasts on Zee TV, the series premiered on 15 April 2014. The show is loosely based on
the novel Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. Kumkum Bhagya is it’s Indian interpretation,
following the life of a Punjabi matriarch, Sarla Arora, who runs a marriage hall.
The pivotal characters of this new show are strong, feisty women, living together in an allfemale
matriarchal family. The series stars Sriti Jha, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Mrunal Thakur, and Arjit Taneja
are in lead roles
The series is produced by Ekta Kapoor under her banner Balaji Telefilms. Continuing her tradition,
Ekta Kapoor has named the series starting with the letter “k” because she feels it is lucky. The
show is directed by Sharad Pandey, and developed by Ekta Kapoor, who won The Best Television
Show (Fiction) in the 21st Lions Gold Awards 2015.
Sriti Jha as Pragya of Kumkum Bhagya is making quite some noise with her acting and
performance. However, this actress who gained a mainstream role and popularity now has many
TV serials to her credit.
1. Born in Bihar, Sriti Jha did her Schooling from Kolkata and Kathmandu
Although her native place is Darbhanga, Sriti Jha was born on February 26, 1986 in Begusarai
district of Bihar. Soon, her family shifted to Kolkata where she did her schooling. After spending 10
years in Kolkata, the family then shifted to Kathmandu in Nepal. Sriti studied in Modern Indian
School there. Soon, the family shifted to Delhi and Sriti joined Laxman Public School in Delhi. Her
nickname is Jhalli.
2. She Joined the English Dramatics Society and Became the President of The Society
After her schooling, Sriti enrolled for an English (H) course in Sri Venkateswara College in Delhi. It
was here that Sriti in 2004 joined an English dramatics society called Verbum. Sriti, who was
actively seen in this society, went on to become the President of the society.
3. Her First Prominent Role Was in a Played Titled ‘Ritual in Blood’ While enacting in the English dramatics society, she acted in many plays. However, she got her
first prominent role in a play titled ‘Ritual in Blood.’ Written by Steven Berkoff, Ritual in Blood is a
play which is set in the 13th century England. Sriti enacted her role so well that she achieved the
award of Best Actor, for her brilliant performance.
4. She auditioned for her debut serial Dhoom Machao Dhoom In Her College in Delhi
Sriti Jha has no struggle story to share. The girl had auditioned for Disney Channel’s Dhoom
Machao Dhoom in her college only. When the show shifted its location from Delhi to Mumbai, Sriti
Jha moved to Mumbai and this is how her career started. In Dhoom Machao Dhoom she played
the role of a superstitious and shy Malini Sharma.
5. She Has Played Many Versatile Roles throughout Her Career So Far
After Dhoom Machao Dhoom, she got the role of Sunaina in 9X’s Jiya Jale. Although the serial
didn’t run for long, Sriti started getting offers. Next, she signed a serial called Angad. However, it
could never see the light of the day. This is the period when she got the role of Sudha in Imagine
TV’s Jyoti where she played the leading lady’s sister, with a split personality disorder.
Simultaneously, she also played the role of a princess Suhani in another fantasy show – Shaurya
Aur Suhani. Yes, this brilliant actor has done two serials together! Next, Sriti joined Rakt
Sambhand where she played the role of a blind girl later also seen as the tapori Vrinda.
Then followed the serial which changed her life forever – Yes, Life Ok’s Dil Se Di Dua…
Saubhagyavati Bhava? where she played the main lead who was a victim of Domestic Violence
opposite Karanveer Vohra. Next, she was seen in Colors long running show Balika Vadhu where
she played the role of the illiterate Ganga. And then …finally came a Balaji tele serial in her kitty
titled Kumkum Bhagya which made her a popular household name.
6. Sriti Is Also a Dancer
Not many know this fact, but Sriti Jha is a good dancer as well. In fact, during her school days, she
was famous more for her dancing skills than acting skills. While, we have not seen much of her
dancing, we hope she soon participates in reality dancing show like Jhalak Dikh La Ja and Nach
