Microsoft: New Windows 10 Build Adds Edge Upgrades

Continuum in Windows 10

Microsoft on Monday released a new Windows 10 insider preview build for PCs ahead of the operating system's official July 29 launch.

Build 10158 adds new features for the Edge browser, stability and quality improvements, and some "additional UI polish," Microsoft said. One thing you'll notice right away is the new Edge branding.
It's important to note that Edge has a new app ID, which will cause any favorites, cookies, history, and reading list items you had saved in earlier builds to disappear after upgrading. So be sure to back this up before upgrading to Build 10158. Microsoft has a step-by-step guide on how to do that on its blog.
Here's what else you can expect from Build 10158.

Edge

A much-requested feature, Microsoft has added a "home" button for Edge. To add it, head to Settings > Advanced Settings, and enable the option "Show home button." You can also now import favorites and bookmarks from other browsers, and there are new options to change what you see when you first open Edge.
Also on Edge, the new build brings a highly requested dark theme, password and form-fill support, and new customizations for the New Tab page so you can either see top sites and suggested content or just top sites.

Cortana

Microsoft has also made some updates to its digital assistant Cortana, adding flight tracking as well as alerts for going to work, home, and the airport.
"When you get an email with flight or package information from supported providers, they show up in the Cortana experience and Cortana will also alert you about them," Microsoft's Gabe Aul wrote in a blog post.
Perhaps even more helpful, you can now send email with Cortana. Just say everything at once — including the recipient(s), subject line, and body of your email — and voila. Cortana will do all the typing for you.

"For example — you would say something like 'Email Gabe Aul Super Awesome Window Feedback…' and then what you want the message to say," Aul wrote. "You can even make corrections with your voice."

Other UX Improvements

The new build also brings a number of bug fixes for Continuum, the feature that lets the operating system adapt to the way a device is being used at the moment — as a PC with a keyboard or as a tablet with touch input. This includes improved Tablet mode animations as well as better support for Windows 8/8.1 apps and classic Win32 apps.
When using the Start Menu, you can now swipe up on the left side to open All apps. In All apps, you can click on a letter to find something specific, which should be helpful for people with a lot of apps installed. Finally, apps will now flash orange on the Taskbar when they need your attention.
