Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently stated that the company must make some difficult decisions; reports claim that killing off Windows Phone will be one of them. Rumours are suggesting that Satya Nadella and his Senior Leadership Team are discussing the option to drop Windows Phone from the mobile phone line and smaller tablets.

The MSFTNerd Twitter account claims that Microsoft will instead use Android with selected apps and services pre-loaded.
Microsoft allowed for services like Skype, OneNote and Office apps to be pre-loaded on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. The rumour says that Microsoft and Google would partner in a deal that would see the development of specific versions of Google Maps, YouTube and Search for the Microsoft desktop OS.
Microsoft is going through some changes at the moment, having just sold part of Bing Maps directly to Uber. Dropping Windows Phone altogether seems like a drastic solution, so we will have to wait to see if this is what Nadella was referring to when he mentioned making difficult choices.
