However, market watchers seem to believe that the new iPhone will help Apple weather the storm and maintain its lead in the smartphone market. Gartner confirms that Apple is having a swell time in the Chinese market. It noted that iPhone sales in China increased by 68% to 11.9 million units in the second quarter, in sharp contrast to the overall smartphone sales in China, which crashed year-over-year for the first time in the second quarter.
More so, Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 6S will see a marked increase in sales started with U.S. customers who are eligible for upgrades. Sanford C. Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi estimates that almost 15million U.S. customers will be eligible for upgrades at the end of this year. This huge number compares to 5.3 million users who could upgrade last fall when the iPhone 6 launched.
