In another massive security breach, data of as many as 34,500 Acer customers have been hacked. The Taiwanese company recently told California's Attorney General (AG) that hackers broke into the company's online store and stole sensitive customer data.
The company also sent out letters to its customers, saying, "We recently identified a security issue involving the information of certain customers who used our ecommerce site between May 12, 2015 and April 28, 2016, which resulted in unauthorized access by a third party."
According to the company, the leaked data includes information such as customer names, addresses, and credit card numbers including expiry dates and three-digit CVC security codes.
The hack affects company's customers based in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico
So far, it's not clear how the hackers broke into Acer's servers. On its part, Acer reportedly said that the breach was was the result of an "unspecified security issue."
The company further assured customers saying that it took all steps to tackle the breach and is being assisted by an outside agency. "We took immediate steps to remediate this security issue upon identifying it, and we are being assisted by outside cybersecurity experts. We have reported this issue to our credit card payment processor. We have also contacted and offered our full cooperation to federal law enforcement," Acer said in the letter.
